carved - 1667-1668 It is part of the group of 16
statues installed between May 1667 and July 1668.
Sculptor
- unknown Stylistic characteristics do not allow
attriution to any of the sculptors working during these years.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine The lion crouched at his
feet alludes to his martyrdom. He is wearing armor, with a
palm in his right hand.
St Marinus
appears to be the martyr of Anazarbo, in Cilicia, at the time of Diocletian
and the governor Lysias.. He refused to sacrifice to idols, was tortured and
exposed to wild beasts.
